first poetry blog
The VacuumBy Howard Nemerov
The house is so quiet now
The vacuum cleaner sulks in the corner closet,
Its bag limp as a stopped lung, its mouth
Grinning into the floor, maybe at my
Slovenly life, my dog-dead youth.
I’ve lived this way long enough,
But when my old woman died her soul
Went into that vacuum cleaner, and I can’t bear
To see the bag swell like a belly, eating the dust
And the woolen mice, and begin to howl
Because there is old filth everywhere
She used to crawl, in the corner and under the stair.
I know now how life is cheap as dirt,
And still the hungry, angry heart
Hangs on and howls, biting at air.
The reason I like the poem in general is because the author wrote in a way that sounds like its more personal about his life. When I was reading the poem it made me feel confused at first then I started to feel awkward because it was about death and I was not expecting that from a poem called "The Vacuum". What was in the poem that I liked was the title because I thought it was about cleaning and the first few lines make it seem about cleaning and it was a common interest on how the author and I felt about the vacuum but it was not that way the more I kept reading.
3 of my favorite lines:
1)To see the bag swell like a belly
The reason I liked this line is because I pictured a vacuum cleaner bag swell up, it helped me understand what the author is saying and how he is describing it.
2) I've lived this way long enough
The reason I like this line is because it helped me understand how the author is feeling, and that he is depressed and sad wants to move on with his life.
3) When my old woman died
The reason i like this line is because I did not understand the poem at first but when I read this sentence and came across this line, I understood that the author was talking about his wife.

Lady Macbeth: Then and Now
Then: Why do you make such faces? When all's done, you look but on a stool.
Lady Macbeth is saying that because Macbeth saw Banquo's ghost and she doesn't see any ghost.
Now: I tell you yet again, Banquo's buried; he cannot come out on's grave.
Lady Macbeth is now replaying the scene in her head, and telling Macbeth that it is impossible because Banquo is dead. That is how they are related because they are both about Macbeth seeing Banquo's ghost.

Good things happen to Bad people
Its almost a fact I can say, that bad things always happen to bad people. I hear about it all the time, I've always wondered why? Why is it always like that. A good example that I have for that is what happened two years ago, my 3 friends were such good people they were always there for anyone who needed anything, if someone was in a bad mood they knew how cheer them up. They did not care about what people would think about them if someone needed something they were the first people who would offer to help. I could count on them for anything no matter what. They are the definition of a genuine friend. One night on November 15th, 2009 they got into a car accident and their car flipped over into a canal and the 3 died, I want to know why it had to happen to soon. They were becoming what they wanted to do they had their head on straight and were counting down the days till they go to college and this came in their way and stopped them.

Word Webs
Now even though Macbeth is played out to be the mean. He is guilty for murdering Duncan. He doesn’t feel okay with what he has done, he did it because I think Lady Macbeth forced him too. Lady Macbeth is still heartless. She doesn’t care about the death of the King and just tells Macbeth that he should not think about what he has done.
The character Macbeth connects to the words kill, stab and red. The reason I think that is because Macbeth always talks about stabbing Duncan with his dagger which is a sword. Kill relates to Macbeth because he wants to murder Duncan to be the King of Scotland. Macbeth relates to those words because she is the one who wants a plot to kill Duncan. She is very sneaky.

Text and Subject
There are quite a few cases that making an indirect approach is a better choice than being direct.
An example of saying an indirect approach is:
If someone wanted to see my class work that they missed and I did not feel like going to my locker to get the class work. What I would say is My notes do not have the information you want, I wrote it in a way that I could only understand. That way is better because then I don't have to get up and I am not really lying.

This picture is from the book Macbeth. These are the 3 witches from the book. What I noticed is that they do not have beards like it said in the book. They do look very ugly though. Their facial expressions look like they are possessed by demons and they are worshiping something above them. How this picture reminds me of Macbeth is because they said the witches were ugly and the they made Macbeth king which goes back to how I said the picture looks like they are worshiping something above them. They just do not look very mad as it said in the book.
This picture reminds me of Macbeth because people look like the three ladies are worshipping the Thane of Cawdor? Possibly. Which are Macbeth and the other guy who could be Duncan? The thing about Macbeth that this picture does not remind me of is the horses, the horses are throwing me off. The picture is a little blurry. Also the picture could possibly be the King of Scotland and his side people.

Ambition
A strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work that is what it says when you look up Ambition in the dictionary. When I look at that definition I think about a strong desire to accomplish a goal with out having anything get in the way or finding a way to come across any obstacles that come at you.
An example that comes to me about having ambition is getting accepted into your college of choice and doing everything you need to do to accomplish that goal. The things you would do is always being on top of your school work, making up any work to keep your grades above the GPA required to make sure you have a guaranteed acceptance, being well rounded in school and out of school for your community, doing good on your sat's and act's. Having ambition is not forced upon you it is by choice because you really want to get to that school of your dreams or goal and that is where having drive and motivation comes into place.
Being ambitious can come off in a bad way which consists of being obnoxious by coming off as someone who knows everything when they really do not and are just cocky about it. Even worse if someone does something to someone they can have ambition to get revenge on that person and harm themselves or that other person.
Having good ambition in my opinon can get you very far in life if you look at it in a positive way not thinking as having to do a lot to accomplish one little goal, that "little" goal can be a life changing moment at the end.

32 second Macbeth script
Actor 4 says: What bloody man is that?, the event that happened is that a bloody guy came up and was probably hurt because of something bad. "A drum, a drum! Macbeth doth com" Mac beth was walking up and they did not want her walking up. All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter: Mac Beth did something good and he should be hailed. If chance will have me king, then chance will crown me: Macbeth wants to be crowned if he can be for doing something good. Actor 5 and Macbeth are having a conversation about probably killing someone because hes trying to prove himself to become king and getting his courage up by killing actor 4. After the death actor 5 says a little water clears us of this deed, he has a weight getting lift off his shoulder because possibly actor 4 is the wife. Actor 6 tells someone to run away and which equals up Macbeth to do something with the deaths. Macbeth finally dies from the King of Scotland. Two observations that I see in this script is the way the actors talk to each other they do not seem happy with each other, they call each other names it seems like. Another thing I noticed in this script is that there was a sequence how people died. Two questions I have about this is what Unsex means and who is the king of Scotland.

Who would live like that? In the book this is someones real house and the way they lived. It wasnt always like that at first in the book Homer and Langley they lived in a huge clean mansion but later over the years they had different types of people coming in and out of their and the items that the people who stayed with Homer and Langley just kept piling up. Langley started Hoarding because he does not care that much about anything. Homer could not help prevent left over items being left over because he is blind and deaf but he is able to sense his surroundings, he knew it was getting worst and worst every time. These men are about 60 or older and they do not know how to take any responsibility for their actions because when they were younger their parents were never there and later on they died, Homer was always alone because his brother Langley was in the war. Homer wasn't exactly alone he had maids working for him. I enjoyed reading the book even though it was a fiction book, I did not understand while I was reading but when we had class discussions about it, It made me more interested in finding out more about Homer and Langley and why they did what they did. It seems more interesting because Homer was the narrator in the book but he was blind and death.

I think we should value the studying of literary texts from the past because the way people wrote things is different from today. The way it is different is just the way people from the worded things such as Shakespeare the dialect from the English language differs from today. The literary texts from different languages is important because they might have a different out look from the text then people from america have because they have different expierences, for example a topic about a television show I might be able to relate to it then someone from a different culutre because they might be more strict and can't apply something from their life to it. The role that PLN can apply in making my study more interesting is writing on blogger to practice my writing techniques also reading other blogs from people in my class to see the different ways to write. I can see how they write to get an idea for myself on what I am struggling with such as making my blog long enough I can see what other students in my class wrote about to get an idea so I can branch of their idea when I am stuck, this is why im excited on planning to use this blog more often to expand the way I write these blogs under 300 words. Another social tool i use is reading articles on the internet for news, the way I think we can use this to make class more exciting is having discussions about any topic that pops out at us and having debates if we agree or disagree about the topic. This is what I want to be able to use in English class to expand my writing and having topics to talk about with people.

What I want to learn
What I want to learn in english this year is how to write better essays and research papers of all kinds. While I have been applying to colleges a lot of them ask to write under a certain number of words, for example the UCF application wants 2 essays under 250 words I cant even get it under 500 without using detail. So what I want to get out of this class is being able to write a good essay under 250 words with using enough detail and thesis to get the readers attention. How I will be able to learn this in Mr. Parson's class will be to ask him questions and also read short stories under 250 words and pay attention to how the author gets to the point with enough detail to make a picture in my head. The big thing that I finally want to be able to learn and know how to do it is punctuation within my essays or any work that has to do with sentences for any class. I have always struggled with that because I feel like I use to many periods or commas in my papers. I use periods a lot I think because I want to prevent a run on sentence because I seem to be able to do that a lot, The reason I use a lot of commas is because I think that the sentence should continue because its the same topic of the sentence I'm writing about so I want to add on. I want to learn when the proper time is to use a period, comma, and when to use any other punctuation in my writing and to write with enough detail in short essays by the end of my senior year in my english class.
